Representatives from 6 countries, (Australia, France, Norway, Finland, USA and the UK) met to form an umbrella organisation for music managers to be called the International Music Managers Forum (IMMF). The meeting was hosted and chaired jointly by the MMF Australia and MMF UK in Cannes, France during MIDEM 2000.
The new organisation will exploit the synergies between the various member countries and further develop and enhance communications between members through vehicles such as newsletters, directories, handbooks and their international website.
Common issues include; Protection and enhancement of artists copyrights and managers' incomes; skills development and education of managers in the global music environment; and developing management skills in emerging music markets
The meeting decided unanimously that the new organisation would be chaired for its first two year period by Michael McMartin representing the MMF(Australia) with the next formal meeting of the international council to be held in Sydney Australia during PCM 2000, 19 -22 October.
