ADVOCACY
The HITS Act would allow independent artists and songwriters to immediately deduct up to $150,000 in recording and production expenses, giving music creators the same tax treatment currently available to film, TV, and theater. This bipartisan bill supports emerging talent by making it easier and more affordable to create and release new music.
The American Music Fairness Act (AMFA) would ensure artists, performers, and music creators are fairly paid when their recordings are played on AM/FM radio. The United States is the only major democracy that does not provide these performance royalties, resulting in over $200 million in lost income for American artists and preventing U.S. creators from earning royalties abroad. Passing AMFA would close this gap, align the U.S. with global standards, and guarantee fair compensation for the music community.
The bipartisan Fans First Act would ban fake tickets, require transparent pricing, and crack down on deceptive marketing in the live music industry. Supported by Fix The Tix — a coalition including MMF-US — the bill aligns with the House-passed TICKET Act to strengthen accountability, protect fans, and curb predatory resale practices that undermine artists and consumers.
