Performing Rights Organizations (PRO)

Descriptions

  • “ASCAP was the first PRO in the US, founded in 1914. As the music business evolved, we’ve evolved right along with it. But we remain committed to protecting the livelihoods of songwriters, composers, and publishers that call ASCAP home. ASCAP is home to more than 825,000 music creator members across all genres - the greatest names in music, and thousands more in the early stages of their careers. We are the only PRO in the US owned and governed by our members.”

  • “Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is a performance rights organization in the United States. It collects blanket license fees from businesses that use music, entitling those businesses to play or sync any songs from BMI's repertoire of over 20.6 million musical works. [2] On a quarterly basis, BMI distributes the money to songwriters, composers, and music publishers as royalties to those members whose works have been performed.”
